Hey Amberly, thanks for reading and for the lovely comment! If you have any post ideas for me, please let me know! I want to start posting more regularly over here, so any suggestions you have would be more than welcome! I think we can all benefit from talking about EDs and body image issues, so I love feedback and discussions!

I just found your blog through another blog... I guess that's how it works! I'm not a blogger, but I've been trying out this whole fitness thing after years of struggling with ED blues. Things are better now, and I'm thankful. I spent last night reading most of your older posts! you have a great blog. I appreciate your honesty. Thanks, Amber

Hey Heather, thanks for the link love! I'm going to keep my eye on your blog to check out your ideas about the intersections between fitness and feminism.
Hydration is SO critical to me. I don't understand how people survive on less than 2L of water a day!! I just feel like...sapped of energy....if I don't hit at least 2L, a lot of days 3! I think that helps tie everything in together, ya know?

I wouldn't even have known the costume was about anorexia. The old vaudeville acts often wore getups like this (luminous, with lights low) but of course the model makes the difference. If it had been an actual skinny ed victim the point would have been obvious. Most guys don't even care what the girl is wearing, by the way, especially if it's not a lot...lol

I've seen this costume around the internet for a couple of years...and as someone living with anorexia and bulimia, I honestly find it sort of funny. While I hate the trivialization of EDs, I'm less likely to be offended by jokes like this (or the "I beat anorexia" shirt, worn by obese men) than by inaccurate but NOT joking references. Using the word "anorexia" as a synonym for "diet", or writing about it as though it's a phase, is dangerous and infuriating. But I guess that after more than a decade of living with an ED, I've decided I have to laugh at the jokes or else I'll just spend forever angry. :)

Hi Heather,

I can really relate to what you have to say. For so long, I have been trying to loose 20 pounds and improve my overall physical appearance.I am not a supermodel nor I am I a size 0, which is something that I have been trying to accept but it can be very tricky. The truth is that I'm a pretty, healthy, 23 year-old size 6 who has an unhealthy, turbulent relationship with food. Self-acceptance can be so hard, but I'm going to work on quitting all this dieting, food obsession, and learn to love myself again.

I really look forward to reading your blog. Keep the posts coming.

Sincerely,
Laura

I'd also like to add, on the flip side ignoring little boys in this isn't good for them either. We have images of rich fat dudes on TV getting everything they want in life, and a lot of teenage boys get that image as a good option (easier than being a body builder, their other "best" alternative) of how to be ... get fat and cocky and don't give a shit and you'll get everything you want (secret tagline .. you'll get diabetes and die early and painfully). At least they have options when it comes to an ideal, unlike girls (for girls it seems like everything new just gets incorporated into the *same* ideal, "you can be it all!"), but one is similarly unattainable and the other terribly unhealthy.

Not about inflicting the same body issues onto boys though. Again, just health.

Praying a day comes when our ideal is long-term health and happy, stable relationships.. But dream away, right?
