A Little About Me

Hi! I’m Heather! Welcome to Body FM, where the mission is tuning to find your own wavelength when it comes to health.  After years of not listening to my body, I decided to make a conscious effort to tune in — and I want to help other people do the same.  I finally got fed up with making my body do things it couldn’t, wouldn’t, and didn’t want to do. I got tired of treating my body like something that didn’t belong to me, like a separate entity that was not me. Going back and forth between loathing and maybe sort of liking myself was getting exhausting, and I was ready for an all-out love fest.

So that’s what you’ll find here.  Lots of self love, discussions on body image, and some fitness fun thrown in there.  I’m an ISSA certified personal trainer so I do love talking about working out, but more importantly, I like talking about how size or shape doesn’t always determine health or fitness.  I was also a Women’s Studies and English major at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, so you’ll hear me talk a lot about how images of women in the media, along with the language we use to talk about our bodies and gender affect how we see ourselves.  That might sound a little heavy, but I promise it’s not.  The feminist in me is tempered by my former sorostitute self, so more often than not, Body FM is simply about finding something entertaining or interesting about staying healthy and sane.

In short, I’m working on becoming the best me that I can be and liking myself along the way. And I want everyone else to do themselves a favor and try to do the same!  Join me in tuning and figuring out exactly what my healthy wavelength looks like!

  1. Hi Heather,
Love your blog and your mission. I chuckled at your latest post as twice I’ve injured myself badly enough to end up in PT by “changing up” my fitness routine doing a class!

I work with a company called Kardea Nutrition. We make a great bar that’s full of healthy ingredients, low calorie, high fiber and vegan. If you’d like to blog about it we’d be happy to send you a free sampler. Please email me if you’re interested.

    Thanks

  2. Hi Heather,

I can really relate to what you have to say. For so long, I have been trying to loose 20 pounds and improve my overall physical appearance.I am not a supermodel nor I am I a size 0, which is something that I have been trying to accept but it can be very tricky. The truth is that I’m a pretty, healthy, 23 year-old size 6 who has an unhealthy, turbulent relationship with food. Self-acceptance can be so hard, but I’m going to work on quitting all this dieting, food obsession, and learn to love myself again.

I really look forward to reading your blog. Keep the posts coming.

    Sincerely,
    Laura
